Everton have agreed a deal worth up to £24m, including add-ons, to sign Chelsea winger Tyrique George on a permanent basis. The move comes after the 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park.
The deal structure
The transfer fee has been renegotiated from the original £25m option to buy. Everton will pay around £18m upfront, with the remaining amount in add-ons tied to European qualification and appearances. Chelsea have also included a 15% sell-on clause in the agreement.
The deal is now subject to personal terms and a medical examination before being officially completed.
George’s loan spell at Everton
George made 11 appearances during his four-month loan, starting once. Despite limited game time, he made a strong impression on manager David Moyes, who described him as an “excellent boy with an excellent work-rate” at the end of his initial spell.
The England Under-21 international showed enough quality and attitude during his time on Merseyside to convince Everton to pursue a permanent move.
A long time coming
George has been available for transfer for the past 12 months. He held talks with RB Leipzig last summer, and a £22m move to Fulham collapsed on transfer deadline day in September 2025. The Everton deal finally gives him the permanent home he has been seeking.
Chelsea’s academy product moves on
George came through Chelsea’s famous academy system and won the Conference League and Club World Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge. However, with Chelsea’s squad depth and spending power, regular first-team football was always going to be difficult to secure.
For Chelsea, the sale represents a healthy profit on a homegrown player while retaining future interest through the sell-on clause.
Everton’s busy summer
George is set to become Everton’s second summer signing. The club have already completed a £16m deal, not including add-ons, to sign midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.
German attacking midfielder Merlin Rohl has also made his loan move from SC Freiburg permanent following a successful spell last season. Meanwhile, experienced duo Idrissa Gana Gueye and Seamus Coleman departed at the end of their contracts.
What to watch
George’s permanent move gives him the stability and platform he needs to develop. At just 20 years old, he has significant potential and already has experience in European competition from his Chelsea days.
For Everton, the signing signals David Moyes’ intent to build a squad capable of competing higher up the Premier League table. The combination of George’s pace and creativity alongside the club’s other new additions could make for an exciting season at Goodison Park.
